FAQ

Q

When should we be booking you?

A

It’s best to book as early as possible if you have a specific date in mind. A year in advance is common and usually early enough to have your choice of dates, although we do sometimes take bookings up to two years in advance. Of course we are happy to take last-minute bookings if we happen to still be available, so it’s never too late to ask and we will accommodate you if at all possible. Saturdays during the summer months tend to be reserved the earliest, so if your desired wedding date is on one of those days we recommend to book early. It is often best to book all of your vendors as soon as you can, otherwise you may find some suppliers can help on one day, some another, and you are left with a dilemma as to what services are most important.

Even if you are unsure about the specific coverage and packages that you’ll require, a deposit will secure your wedding date and the details can be arranged later on. You will also be protected from any price increases! We are happy to meet with you in person to discuss your options in more detail before making your booking, but if this isn’t convenient for you, then the arrangements can be made via phone or email instead. In all cases, we will provide you with a receipt for your deposit and a confirmation that your date is secure.

Q

How much time should we allow for main bridal party photos?

A

We generally allow about 15 minutes of mingling with your guests after the ceremony, and 30 minutes for family photos. Following this, we like to have 1.5 hours with the bridal party at the chosen location, plus any time needed to travel there and back, which often works out to about 2 hours for everything. If you have any other questions about planning the timing of your day, please don’t hesitate to ask, as we have lots of experience with what works well.

Q

When should we do the wedding portraits, can we take these photos before the ceremony?

A

This is entirely your choice. Some couples enjoy having private time together during a ‘first look’ while being photographed before the ceremony, and this can allow you to spend more time with your guests afterwards during the cocktail hour. However, many couples prefer to see each other for the first time when walking down the aisle, and depending on what time the ceremony is taking place, the setting sun and softer light after the ceremony can create beautiful photographs.

Q

Will my wedding portraits be used on your blog or website?

A

If you would specifically like your portraits featured on the blog/website, or conversely not used at all for privacy, let us know and we will be more than happy to do what you prefer.

Q

Who will photograph our wedding?

A

As White Poplar’s main photographer, Ewan will photograph your wedding. If he is unavailable for your date, we can offer the services of another equally-talented staff member, and will let you know this from the outset. There will never be any uncertainty about who will be photographing your wedding.

Q

Do you use a second photographer or assistant?

A

Sometimes, but this depends on your wedding, budget and preference. For small ceremonies, a sole photographer is less obtrusive and won’t get in the way. For medium- to large-sized weddings, a second photographer can offer a different but complementary perspective and can assist with tasks such as arranging large groups of people. But the choice to use a second photographer is entirely yours, and in either case you will receive a complete set of images that fully capture your day.

Q

Will you travel out of town?

A

Absolutely, we are willing to travel anywhere that is required! Some locations will incur an additional fee, and quotes for this can be provided upon request.

Q

What about the vintage look? Do you do other styles?

A

Images can be made to have a certain feel in post-production, and some people prefer some styles over others. If you have a particular style in mind, feel free to show us some examples and we will do our best to incorporate this into your images.

Q

Can we have black and white coverage?

A

Yes! Although all of your images will of course be initially captured in colour, they can be transformed into a variety of beautiful tones, including black and white, sepia, antique, and many more, thanks to digital technology. We will show you examples of some of the choices during your planning session.

Q

When can we expect to get our photos/albums?

A

Your sneak-peek photos will be up within a day or two, and you will receive all of your edited photos within 3 weeks.

Albums will be finished within 6 weeks of you choosing the photos and approving the layout, though in most cases we can get them to you much sooner, around 3-4 weeks.

Prints are produced within 2 weeks, though they can take as little as 2 days!

Q

Do you provide videography services?

A

We don’t currently offer videography, but will be happy to provide contact information for recommended videographers.

Q

Will you pose us?

A

This depends on your preference; some couples feel nervous and prefer more friendly guidance, while others prefer less. I will give guidance about positioning to take advantage of the available lighting, and will offer suggestions for initial posing, but at all times my aim is to capture images that show you being yourselves. An engagement session is a great way to become more relaxed with your photographer and with being photographed together.

Q

Do your photographers have a dress code?

A

It is important for us that our photographers are dressed appropriately and professionally. Each of our photographers will wear attire that is suitable for a special occasion, although dress jackets are often removed as they can be restrictive when taking photos. If you have a specific or particularly formal dress code, please let us know and we will be happy to comply with it.

Q

How many photographs will we receive?

A

Your high resolution DVD will contain at least 250 individual images, although the usual number is between 350 and 500. These are the very best pictures taken on the day, and each print will be individually corrected and presented in colour or black and white, depending on which best suits the mood of the image. As each print is individual, and we do not include many different versions of the same shot, you should expect to love every one!

Q

What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

A

The benefit of hiring professional wedding photographers is that we have the equipment, knowledge, experience and skill to cope in any situation regardless of the weather.  We may have to shoot indoors but in even the simplest venue it is still possible to create some lovely images.

If the weather is less than ideal don’t despair, cloudy and overcast days make for some of the best (and most flattering) lighting, and can deliver some really interesting skies as a background.
